Women Empowerment Cell

The College has established a Women Empowerment Cell, to empower girl students, to enhance understanding of issues related to women and to make the college campus a safe place for women students with a view to taking up women’s issues and problems as per the guidelines of UGC, Affiliating University and Dept of Collegiate Education.

AIMS OF THE CELL

  • Creating awareness of rights and duties of the girl students.
  • To provide a platform for women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society. 
  • To suggest ways to improve and empower the women students. 
  • Aiming at intellectual and social upliftment of the female students. 
  • To enlighten the women students about legal rights of women.
  • To build confidence to face real life challenges.
  • To develop a sense of self-respect and to bring out the hidden talents of the students.

 

COMMON PROGRAMS:

  1. Inauguration of women empowerment cell is done during the Inauguration of Student Union every year. A lady Representative represents the cell and takes part in the Oath taking ceremony.
  2. Independence Day is Celebrated every year in our college. Cleanliness campaign is been held in association with NSS.
  3. Every year an annual camp of 7 days is been conducted by the NSS Club. Women students participates in the NSS camp conducted by our college and gains the benefits out of it.

 

  • A Psychological talk was conducted on the topic, “Psychological Problems in Young Ladies” by Dr. Nikitha, Psychologist, Dept
    of Community Medicine, KMC, Manipal, on 25th Sept 2019.
  • Students participated in a Programme on “Sexual Harassment and its Legal effects” by Dr. Naveen Kumar, Asst Professor MIM, Manipal, on 5th March, 2020 organized by Poornaprajna
    College and Post Graduate Centre, Udupi.
  • A workshop on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Educational Institutions” was organized by the Centre for Women’s Studies, Mangalore University on 19th March,2020 at Dr. G. Shankar Govt. Women’s First Grade College and PG study Centre Ajjarkad, Udupi.  Principal Dr. Sukanya Mary J, Women Cell Co-ordinator Mrs Lavita Dsouza and 2 students of our college participated in this workshop.
