ABOUT
Dept of Commerce is one of the oldest dept of the college working since its Inception (Nov 1966). The Department of Commerce is one of the prestigious departments of the College ever since its inceptionThe objectives of the Dept are tuned to the objective of the college. The 3 years degree program spread over 6 semesters is affiliated to Mangalore University.The uniqueness profile of our college lies in the profile of our students, most of whom come from the marginalised groups. In fact, many are bread winners for their family, and many-are pursuing their professional courses.
The college is highly inclined to fulfilling growing education demands of working youth- those pursing professional courses and appearing for competitive examinations and homemakers, by encouraging them pursue graduate programmes in commerce.The Department of Commerce is a vibrant community of faculty and students. It believes in developing global competencies in students through Quality Education.The stream Commerce has been designed to equip students with the skillsets to explore, experiment and imbibe an in-depth understanding of trading sector and business activities.Commerce and Industry are the pillars of any developing economy. the objective of this Course is to make the student familiar with the different angles relating accounting, finance, banking, Business and Economy. through this programme (course) a student gains a comprehensive view of the functioning of an organisation and also cultivate good professional skills.
Commitment to pursue Excellence in Commerce education, while with equipping students with knowledge and skills in commerce Stream, inculcate values identify hidden talents, provide opportunities for Students to realize their full potential and thus Shape them in to national assets.
It provides a platform for students to exhibit their talents in various commerce-oriented events and also help them to enhance their analytical and decision-making skills. The activities conducted in our dept. enables them to perform outstandingly well in team work and in creative endeavours.
We encourage students to organize events such as National Seminars, Inter-college and inter department meets, participate in events organized by other colleges and also get involved in activities of social relevance. They are enabled to think creatively and to develop right mindset to meet the challenges of the globalised business environment, through interpersonal relations and outreach programmes.
Commerce & Management Association Report- 2018-19
Mr. Santhosh Kumar, HOD, Dept. of Commerce, is the co-ordinator of this association.
- Professional Course Orientation.
Commerce dept. of the college conducted a professional course orientation for the students on 6th August 2018. CA Roy Mathais addressed the students about the relevance of the professional course like CA, CS etc.
- Participation of the Students in other Association Activities
The student members of the association also participated in the activities related to other associations including the Blood Donation Camp organised jointly by NSS & Red-Cross.
- Skill Enhancement Activities
The various competitions held during the academic year were Mad-Ad, Paper & PowerPoint presentation, Quiz competition and Mock press.
- Guest Lecture on Bombay Stock Exchange
On 27th July 2018 a Guest lecture was organised by the association on the topic ‘Stock Exchange Market (BSE)’. The resource person of the program was Mr.Ramachandra Rao.
Extension Activities
- Visit to shops and markets of Car Street: The Commerce department conducted an extension activity on 1st August 2018.
- On 7th August 2018, the department conducted an extension activity at Bakery & General stores Udupi.
- On 27th August 2018, final B.Com students of the college visited Advertisers and Printers to learn about the functioning of the Ad agency.
- On 1st September 2018, members of the association visited Milk parlour and General stores and Created awareness among them on cashless transaction as a part of extension activity.
Students’ Achievements
- Aishwarya Kini and Krupanvita Bhat of 2nd B.Com participated and presented a paper titled “Women Entrepreneurship” at the State level conference organised by Madhava Pai Memorial College, Manipal, in association with Manipal Group, Kurlon, Power Udupi & Inner Wheel Club, Udupi on 23rd August 2018.
- Padmashri, Nikita Shetty and Rashmitha of 2nd B.Com participated and presented a paper on “Changing work ethics” in the Two day International Conference On Contemporary Innovations In Industry and Commerce (CIIC-2019) held at Mangalore University Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Commerce, on 22nd and 23rd February 2019.
The objectives of all the following activities is to enhance the students with professional knowledge in the field of Business and Commerce.
Commerce & Management Association Report-2019-20
Mr. Santhosh Kumar, HOD, Dept. of Commerce, is the co-ordinator of this association.
This association is formed to equip students to be qualified in competitive market by integrating Academics with Value-based advice and professional skills.
- Guest Lecture on Impression Management:
Commerce association organized a guest lecture on “Impression Management” on 04-09-2019. The resource person was Prof. Praveen Kumar department of commerce, Manipal. The objective of this programme was to sensitize students about importance of Impression of human resource in organization. He emphasized that impression of human management is also an important and necessary skill for people in the work place. To acquire good and talented people is not a hard thing to do, but making sure that they want to stay working for the same business is the challenge.
- Guest Lecture on Bombay Stock Exchange:
The commerce department conducted a guest lecture on 24-09-2019on the topic “BSE & CAPITAL MARKET” Prof.Ramachandra Bhat MGM College was the resource person. He emphasized that the capital market play a significant role in any economy, the effective allocation of savings has a great impact on improving the GDP of a country. Capital market is a best channel to route the savings in to long term productiveness.
- Orientation programme on US CMA:
Commerce association organized a “Orientation programme on US CMA”. The resource person was Vasumathi Shetty of ISDC Bangalore, on 24/01/2020. She explained the importance of CMA which is relevant in the current future of the students.
- Participation of the Students in other Association Activities
The student members of the association also participated in the activities related to other associations including the Blood Donation Camp organised jointly by NSS & Red-Cross.
